Metsulfuron-methyl is an organic compound classified as a sulfonylurea herbicide, which kills broadleaf weeds and some annual grasses It is a systemic compound with foliar and soil activity, that inhibits cell division in shoots and roots. It has residual activity in soils, allowing it to be used infrequently but requiring up to 22 months before planting certain crops (sunflowers, flax, corn, or safflower). It has very low toxicity to mammals, birds, fish, and insects but is a moderate eye irritant.
Description
The sulfonylurea herbicides are a class of widely used herbicides, and they are expected to get a larger share of the market in the future. The sulfonylurea herbicides have low application rates compared to traditional herbicides, are effective on a wide spectrum of weeds and have low toxicity to humans and animals. The sulfonylurea herbicides exert toxic activity by interfering with the enzyme acetolactate synthase (ALS), which is specific for plants and microorganisms The enzyme is involved in the synthesis of the branched amino acids leucine, valine and isoleucine
The sulfonylurea herbicides have been developed from the triazine herbicides and have the triazine structure in common with other triazine herbicides, e.g. atrazine which has been used widely in corn and spruce plantations.
Features of Metsulfuron Methyl
- High quality formulation specifically targeted to broadleaf and grassy weed control on ornamental turf, such as lawns, parks, cemeteries, golf courses (fairways, aprons, tees and roughs) and sod farms.
- Low use rates delivers highly effective results on warm season turf, controls annual and perennial broadleaf weeds and certain grassy weeds in turf, absorbed through surface and roots (stops weed growth), and university tested
- Clover, Dollarweed, Bahiagrass, Foxtail, Henbit, Bittercress, Chickweed, Buckhorn
- Residential Lawns, Parks, Cemeteries and Golf Courses (Fairways, Aprons, Tees, Roughs)
- Metsulfuron Methyl 60%
Uses/benefits of Metsulfuron Methyl
Metsulfuron-methyl is a residual sulfonylurea compound, used as a selective pre- and post- emergence herbicide for broadleaf weeds and some annual grasses. It is a systemic compound with foliar and soil activity, and it works rapidly after it is taken up by the plant.
Active ingredient
An identity test is required if the identity of the active ingredient is in doubt (e.g. HPLC or IR spectrum).
