A herbicide for the control of a range of grass and annual broad-leaved weeds in a wide range of crops. Pendimethalin is commonly used for pre- and post-emergence weed control in a range of crops. Best known as Stomp, it was first introduced to the market in the 1970s, and has gone on to form the backbone of weed control strategies in a vast range of crops in the UK and across the world. Taking 10 years to develop, the launch of Stomp Aqua in 2009 brought a new innovative form of pendimethalin to UK farmers whilst delivering the same proven reliable weed control users had come to expect.
Whether you’re growing avocadoes, cotton, teatree or turf, you probably appreciate the value of pendamethalin to control key weeds that could compete with the establishing crop – and don’t appreciate the yellow staining that used to be an inevitable drawback of using it. Stomp® Xtra uses micro-encapsulation to dramatically reduce staining and the loss of active ingredient through volatilisation between application and incorporation. Add in a higher concentration of the active ingredient, and it’s a more convenient and efficient formulation all round.

Uses/benefits of Stomp Herbicide
- Versatile and flexible new Group H chemistry
- Excellent control of hard-to-kill broadleaf weeds
- Bonus reduction of wild oats seed-set where Avena sterilis is dominant
Mode of action:
Stomp is a pendimethalin-based herbicide of the dinitroaniline class. It is a herbicide applied to soil to combat annual monocotyledonous weeds and annual dicotyledonous species. Inhibits both the division of the cell and its extension into the root meristem. The growth of weeds is stopped directly as a result of absorption through the coleoptile/hypocotyl growth peaks. Weeds die immediately after germination or rising, being eliminated early in the competition.
Method of application:
Equipment for field application of liquid herbicides, commonly used in the crops mentioned above, may be used. Use nozzles specific to herbicide applications. The volume of solution used depends on the equipment used and each crop. For a 3 l dose per hectare, when applying the back pump, use 60 ml Stomp in 10 l of water for a surface area of 200 square meters. The time saved whilst prepping with Stomp Aqua for 100 ha could allow you to spray approximately 17 ha extra, compared to other products.
Break time:
Stomp® Aqua does not impose any restrictions on crop rotation. If the crop fails, it is advisable to carry out an array of 20 cm before sowing / planting the next crop. Exceptions make beet and spinach crops more sensitive, respecting a break interval of at least 12 months after the application of the herbicide.
